Walmart Expands Same-Day Delivery to Include Prescriptions
Walmart announced it would expand its same-day delivery service to include pharmacy items. Customers in select states can now add prescriptions to grocery and merchandise orders, streamlining everything into one convenient delivery.
Current Availability and Future Plans
This new pharmacy delivery service is currently available in six states: Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. By January 2025, Walmart plans to make Pharmacy Delivery accessible to customers in 49 states, helping those who can’t regularly visit a Walmart pharmacy receive their new prescriptions and refills at home.
Supporting Community Health Needs
Kevin Host, Walmart’s senior vice president of Pharmacy, explained, “Our nationwide reach and deep pharmacy expertise allow us to make a big impact. Health care isn’t one-size-fits-all; it’s hyper-local. This new service allows us to keep serving customers while giving pharmacies more time for high-touch health services.”
Meeting a Top Customer Request: Prescription Delivery
Walmart’s recent survey revealed that prescription delivery was the most requested service among customers. This new service provides a significant benefit for families, seniors, and those managing chronic conditions who may lack time for additional pharmacy trips.
Flexible Delivery Options for Convenience
Walmart offers three delivery options to fit various customer schedules:
- Scheduled Same-Day Delivery: Select a specific time slot that works best.
- On-Demand Delivery: Have prescriptions delivered within hours or as quickly as 30 minutes.
- Insurance-Eligible: Prescription transactions are insurance-compatible, just like in-store pickups.
Strict Safety and Compliance Standards
To ensure secure delivery, Walmart verifies all prescriptions by licensed pharmacists. Prescriptions are transported under HIPAA-compliant standards, with tamper-evident packaging. Customers can track their orders through the Walmart app or website, and delivery is confirmed with a photo sent to the app and email.
Comprehensive Care in Every Delivery
Tom Ward, Walmart’s executive vice president of eCommerce, notes, “Pharmacy Delivery combines everything a customer may need—medications, comfort items, and household essentials—in one order. Walmart’s scale and expertise set us apart, ensuring every order fits customers’ needs.”
